Why Certainly

This isn’t a Three Stooges post. Though it soitenly may sound like it. I’m just trying to collect some thoughts to help me stay clear on WHY I want to start a business.

For me, the why sounds pretty cliche. I want to be in business to help people. The next obvious question I seemed to forget to ask myself for so long was…

Help who? With what?

I flip flopped through so many business ideas over the past few years, not really getting any results and not really having the drive to keep pushing forward.

Writing that out, the cause should be pretty obvious. I wasn’t clear on my why.

It was too vague.

It was too easy to accomplish because it was so vague. I could literally hold a door for someone, and boom.. I had accomplished it.

The problem? Did it really have much of an impact on them? Not really.

My wife and I recently have gotten involved in network marketing and this issue of being clear on your why comes up again.

Hint: It’s going to come up in literally every business you start, and money doesn’t really cut it either. (Another hint.. but for another post.)

So we started diving deeper. Helping who.. do what? As I sat and brainstormed who I most wanted to help in the world, I keep coming back to her.

You see, when I met my wife, she was a single mother. She was struggling, but no more than anyone else. You see she was a momma bear with 2 cubs that was ready to brawl with life.

Some days she won, some days she rested up for other days.. but she kept going. Her strength was inspiring and as I got to know her, I fell in love with her.

So what does this have to do with my why? Well, as I was sitting down trying to think of who I wanted to help and why I wanted to help, I think back to her.

She and I have learned so much in the past few years that could have really changed her day to day life before I was around. (I’m not tooting my own horn here.. She was well on her way before I ever came along..) I fell in love with her story and the way she used it to grow and start building the life she wanted.. when so many other people just want to throw in the towel.

So it seemed natural to want to help other single mothers in those situations.

Now this was kind of an odd thing for me at first. I was sitting down thinking of my ideal client and I (a guy… if that wasn’t clear) want nothing more than to help provide tools to help single mothers live a more balanced and comfortable life.

Seem odd to you? Sometimes it still feels a bit odd to me, but I’m just gonna own it. I freaking care about the women out there who are strong enough to do that and selfless enough to put the lives of their cubs ahead of their happiness.

Cheers to you and all that you do.

We’re working on ways to help and for once.. we’re both super excited about this business we’re creating.
